GEAR UP
The MGSLP has been a proud partner of GEAR UP since it began in 1999.
GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a five-year federal grant awarded to the Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education (OCHE) for the state of Montana. The goal of this federal initiative is to encourage and support students from low-income backgrounds to set high academic expectations, stay in school, study hard and take courses needed to prepare them for college-level studies.
Each year 11th graders at the participating GEAR UP high schools can apply to receive a $1000 college savings account. The students must meet specific criteria to be eligible for the account.
